Obituary: Joseph Woodland, the man who invented the barcode, has died at his home in New Jersey at age of 91.
Mr. Woodland conceived the modern bar code, an innovation that adorns almost every product of modern life. He conceived the idea in Miami Beach, at his grandfather’s home, where he was spending the winter of 48.
