Last Friday, 11 June 2010, the Cade Foundation awarded its first annual Cade Prize for Innovation, a $50,000 award to Tutor Matching Service, what their team described as E-Harmony meets tutoring. Congratulations!
I had the opportunity to be a part of WiOptix. The WiOptix team has developed a optical imaging system for early cancer detection. Having had several close family members die to cancer this idea had a great deal of personal impact. We were one of the final four.
I wanted to briefly opine about my experience......those of you know me, know that brief is something rare for me! I have been active in start ups for about 15 years. As I like to say: a couple of doubles, a couple of singles & a couple of outs, but I keep swinging away!
Phoebe & Richard Miles and Monika Oli did an outstanding job, especially if you consider they have never done this before. On whole the process was smooth and straight forward. The way they & their team winnowed down 104 to 16 and then 4 was done professionally & I wanted to publicly state I was impressed. Many times foundations do this type of activity and the result is less than what an experienced entrepreneur can comment, positively.
The Cade Foundation did an outstanding job, thank you.
