I am always participating in helping other entrepreneurs. Even though we are close to Gainesville (30 miles), we still seem to be removed a bit with the costs of attending Gainesville activities from here (gas, etc). Our being a technology company in Ocala has had its challenges. Wishing we were in Gainesville is a great thought, but will not make it so.
With what we have been developing the last five years, the Ocala economy has been hit particularly hard the last three years (construction with new homes almost gone), and one of our companies focuses is on creating jobs (our company is an ultimate national job creation monster), so we anticipate being able to start creating jobs on a national level within this next year. With our corporate offices here in Ocala, starting right here in Ocala creating jobs is a great thing for Ocala :)
Those looking for resources do now have the Small Business Resource Network, and it has become active here in Ocala. That has really helped those entrepreneurs in our area.
SBRN is a great resource for startups and small businesses, at:
http://www.sbrn.org/network-directory.php?verb=search
You can search for your city and find great contacts that want to, and do help.
Been so focused on our model (had to be), as our growth has been a bit overwhelming this last six months. Vehltor has become like a race horse that is ready to run. Being in Ocala (Horse Capital of the World), I have learned great things from people active in helping others in the community. You know that social entrepreneur wonderful addiction I have :)
Hoping things are going well for you while out of country. Looking forward to your return. Have a safe trip home. Summer is almost already here. Where does time go :)
