Dave, I have a great guest for your next Technology Spotlight. Maulik Shah, MD, PhD, has started an incredible program for high school and college students called STARS, or Students as Research Scientists. The students have access to a biomedical lab and conduct independent lab research under the guidance of Dr. Shah and other scientists. The students choose projects in areas such as gene therapy, nanotechnology, cancer vaccine research, DNA diagnostics, immunology and more. There's also an on-site Mini-Med School that offers a students practical clinical/medical skills. Students have access to the lab 24/7 and are presented with weekly lectures in various areas of science. The program is based on an NSF-funded enrichment program in response to the critical need for scientists. If you want more information, or if you'd like to speak to Dr. Shah, give me a call at 352-870-3140.
