Apellix Takes TopGun Award During The 2017 GAIN Shootout

November 1st, 2017. Gainesville, FL – Apellix is the latest company to take the TopGun award during the 2017 GAIN Shootout.

16 companies pitched their startup idea to a group of early-stage investors for a chance to win $7,000 in equity-free cash, $1,000 in ExpoSource dollars, be named the TopGun, and win the coveted Stetson Hat.

“GAIN is an excellent organization for helping startups and entrepreneurs and Apellix is excited for the introductions to angel investor groups, University of Florida talent, and mentorship from successful entrepreneurs that GAIN provides” said Bob Dahlstrom, Founder and CEO of Apellix.

Apellix is the leader in aerial robotics and the only company with proven capabilities to measure the thickness of steel on a 300′ flair stack or clean and paint a wind turbine 260′ off the ground. Their proprietary sensor arrays, circuitry, software, and power management allows custom designed drones to serve as industrial tools capable of all-day continuous work.

“We truly had a regional event this year with judges from Gainesville, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Naples, and Sarasota. Plus, participants from Gainesville, Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville.” Said David Flores, Interim Executive Director for the Gainesville Area Innovation Network (GAIN). “This is our 7th year doing this event and every year it gets bigger and better.”

The three runner ups companies were Antibiotic Adjuvant from the Life Sciences track, Jellifin from the FinTech track, and PreferHired from the Technology track. Apellix was the winner of the Manufacturing track. “This year we opened tracks to get specialized investors in the room that can provide industry-related feedback and open doors for the participating companies.” Said Flores about the new format of the competition.

The 16 Most Wanted companies had the opportunity to be featured on Local TV through a partnership with WCJB in Gainesville. Plus, all of them had the opportunity to receive feedback on their pitch before the event. The 16 companies were divided into 4 industry tracks and presented to early-stage investors in their respective industry. The tracks were Technology, FinTech, Manufacturing, and Life Sciences. A winner of each track was selected and won $1,000 in equity-free cash.
